Search the scripture; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and  they are they which testify of me. John 5:39 

There many people whose faith is founded on what others say. They never verify their faith from reading the word of God for themselves. All they depend upon is what others have spoken in their hearing. As true as it is that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Rom 10:17), if you don’t read the word for yourself, you will be at the shallow end of faith.

In the opening scripture, Jesus commends us to search the scriptures as He lets us know that the scriptures testify of Him. In this he implies that if we are going to grow in depth of the knowledge of God and be acquainted with His character and nature, we must devout to reading and searching of the scripture for ourselves.

In the scriptures, is where the powerful, transforming incorruptible Word of God is revealed, and the Word of God is God, John 1:1. So you cannot afford to ignore the studying of the word of God. God has hidden His truth in the scriptures.

When you neglect or ignore the studying of the Word, you are ignoring knowing your God and what He has granted you. The consequence of ignoring the knowledge of God is the cutting off of divine common wealth.

Scripture says my people are destroyed [cut off] for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shall be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children, Hosea 4:6. Notice it says my people, not the enemy’s people, but God’s own people have rejected knowledge. As a result, God rejects them from certain priestly privileges.

Priests are meant to approach God and minister to Him in prayer; but here, that privilege is withheld from those who reject knowledge, that their prayers are heard no more and heaven is shut because the people lack knowledge of the things of God. This ought not to be so in your life.

Studying God’s word will make you grow your knowledge of faith in depth that you may avoid operating under a closed heaven. Scripture encourages us to have the word of Christ dwelling in us richly in all wisdom, Col 3:16. This cannot happen unless you devout yourself to a time of studying the word. You ought to study the word to show yourself approved before God, (2 Tim 2:15).

Search the scripture to align your life in the Word. By doing this you will be able to live a prosperous life, when you use the word in your life.

Jesus said if you continue in my word then are ye my disciples indeed and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free, John 8:31-32. The freedom you enjoy depends on the word of truth you have accepted. So read, study and search in the scriptures for the truth that you may be free in different areas of your life. God Bless.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for your word. I pray that I devout myself to a time of reading and studying your word. Help me know more about you when I read your word. I pray I receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
