Thus says the Lord, thy redeemer, the holy one of Israel; I am the Lord thy God who teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. Isaiah 48:17
Before we continue, can you faithfully answer these questions about you? Are you teachable? Are you submissive to leadership? Are you willing to be led? Many times when we fail to admit to our inner struggles, we end up coming short of the results we wanted because we failed to address those issues when we had a chance.
There is nothing as hurtful as failing when it was in your capacity to achieve victory. Many of God’s children have the capacity and capabilities to achieve great things, but many are not teachable. They want the result that comes from learning God’s word, but they are not willing to be taught. They want the profit but not able to learn what it takes to have the profit.
In the opening scripture, God is emphasizing that He is a teacher and a leader. What every teacher needs is a student and what every leader needs is a follower. The most a student can ever do to a teacher is to repeat back what he learnt from the teacher. When God says He teaches us how to profit, in essence, He expects us to live by His standards that we may learn from Him how to regain the costs back and even get profits.
Note that profit is what you did not have before; it is an increase; it is a measure of excess above the cost. Many Christians are living life on the average, only getting their costs back. They are bearing with just enough, yet God wants them to have overflowing abundance.
Do yourself a favour; let God teach you how to profit. Jesus said I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly, John 10:10. Implying that the life of Christianity is not a life of bear survival, but it is a life of excess, a life of more than enough. To have this life in its essence, firstly you must be teachable. The entirety of God’s word is about teaching. God is a great investor. Before He adorns you with His glory, He has to teach you how to walk in the glory that you may sustain it.
Scripture advises not to give that which is holy unto dogs, neither cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rent you, Mat 7:6. The dogs and the swine will behave that way because they have no understanding of what is presented before them. So it is of a person who is not taught God’s word. He will behave carnally without putting value to spiritual things.
However as for you, be teachable that you may understand what God has for you. Secondly, be a follower. Humble yourself under leadership. God is a leader, and leaders need followers. Have humility in you that you may follow diligently those that God has chosen to lead you. The glorious life is meant for you.
